What to know before buying a Zeekr
- Very frequent updates. Zeekr changes the equipment and software of its models several times a year. In 2024, buyers of a 001 found themselves with a new model after only six months, and the brand's head publicly admitted the company had communicated poorly. This can lower the resale value of older versions.
- The software is designed for China. Models brought to order from China come with the Chinese infotainment system and apps. Ask us what language and features the chosen car has. Zeekr also has an official importer in Moldova, with export versions and a factory warranty; do not assume this warranty automatically covers a car brought directly from China.
- The 8X is very new. The Haohan-S plug-in hybrid system has only existed since 2025 (9X), and the 8X launched in April 2026. There is no long-term service experience yet, either in China or in Europe. The range in Chinese spec sheets (CLTC) is optimistic: on average, count on about two-thirds of it, and about half on the highway in winter.
- Rare versions are expensive to repair. The 001 FR, with four motors and over 1,200 hp, sold only a few hundred units in China. Parts specific to this version may be harder and more expensive to get. For the regular 001, 007 and 7X versions, parts are easier to find because they are produced in large volumes.

A short history
Zeekr grew out of a Lynk & Co project. The car shown in 2020 as the Lynk & Co Zero Concept became the Zeekr 001, the new brand's first model. Geely founded Zeekr in March 2021 as a premium electric car brand, aiming to compete with Tesla and Nio. Deliveries of the 001 began in October 2021; 6,007 cars were delivered that year.
In 2022, Zeekr delivered 71,941 cars, all of them 001s. In 2023 came the compact X SUV, the 009 luxury MPV and, at the end of the year, the 007 sedan. Also in 2023 it entered Europe: orders opened in Sweden and the Netherlands, and the first car was handed over to a Dutch customer on December 9, 2023.
On May 10, 2024, Zeekr listed on the New York Stock Exchange and raised 441 million dollars, the largest US listing by a Chinese company since 2021. In September 2024 it launched the 7X SUV, which became the brand's best-selling model. The year ended with 222,123 cars delivered, almost double 2023.
2025 was the year of reorganization. In February, Zeekr took over 51% of Lynk & Co, and the two brands formed Zeekr Group. In July, Geely Auto signed the takeover of all remaining shares, and on December 22, 2025 Zeekr became a wholly owned subsidiary and delisted, just 19 months after listing. Sales stagnated: 224,133 cars, well below the 320,000 target. In September 2025 came the first Zeekr plug-in hybrid, the large 9X SUV.
In 2026, Zeekr grew again. In April it launched the 8X plug-in hybrid SUV, and from April to August it broke its monthly record five times in a row. In the first eight months it delivered 251,188 cars, more than in all of 2025. Orders for the 7X passed 200,000 worldwide, and the model is sold in over 50 countries.
What sets it apart
The SEA platform, shared with Volvo, smart and Polestar
All Zeekr models sit on SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture), Geely's first platform designed from scratch for electric cars. The same platform, in different size variants, is used by the Volvo EX30, smart #1 and Polestar 4, and the Zeekr X is a close relative of the Volvo EX30. For the buyer, this means components produced in large volumes and proven on cars sold in Europe. The Zeekr 001, X and 7X received five stars in Euro NCAP safety tests.
800 V, then 900 V: fast charging
The Zeekr 007 and 7X started out on an 800 V electrical architecture, and the 001 moved to 800 V in 2024. The high voltage allows high-power charging without the cables and battery overheating. Since fall 2025, the 001 and 7X have moved to 900 V; for the updated 7X, Zeekr quotes charging from 10 to 80% in about 10 minutes on a powerful enough charger. The real speed, however, depends on the power of the station used.
Batteries: CATL's Qilin and its own Golden Brick
Zeekr was the first brand to use CATL's Qilin battery in series production, on the 001, in 2023; the 140 kWh version reached over 1,000 km of range on the Chinese CLTC cycle, in a limited series. In December 2023, Zeekr launched its own LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery, Golden Brick, first fitted to the 007. Zeekr says it fills over 83% of the pack volume with cells, well above the average for LFP batteries.
The 8X super hybrid: a plug-in hybrid, not a range extender
The 9X and 8X use the Haohan-S system, which Zeekr calls a “super electric hybrid”: a 2.0 turbo gasoline engine, two or three electric motors and a large 55 or 70 kWh battery. In the city and at low speeds, the gasoline engine only generates electricity, as in a range-extended car. At constant highway speed, however, it connects directly to the wheels through a clutch, so technically it is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). On the 8X, electric-only range reaches up to 410 km on the CLTC cycle; in real conditions, count on less.
Zeekr names follow two simple rules. Three-digit numbers starting with “00” (001, 007, 009) are the brand's “classic” models: the 001 shooting brake, the 007 sedan and the 009 MPV. A digit plus “X” (7X, 8X, 9X) means an SUV; the higher the digit, the larger and more expensive the car. “GT” marks the wagon version (007 GT, sold outside China as the 7GT), and “FR” the four-motor performance version (001 FR). Names like WE, ME and YOU were the 001's trim levels; YOU was the best equipped, with two motors and all-wheel drive.

Zeekr is the Geely group's premium brand, one level above Geely and Lynk & Co. In China it competes with Tesla, Nio and the German brands, and in Europe with Tesla, Polestar and the electric models from BMW, Audi and Mercedes.
