THE AUTO OUTLET TEAM · UPDATED SEPTEMBER 23, 2026 · ~7 MIN

In short

Xiaomi (小米汽车) is the car division of the Chinese phone and electronics company Xiaomi, announced in March 2021, with its headquarters and factory in Beijing. Its first car, the SU7 electric sedan, was launched in March 2024, followed by the YU7 SUV in June 2025. Xiaomi makes its own electric motors, the HyperOS operating system and driver assistance, and since September 2026 it has also sold extended-range SUVs (EREV), the SkyNomad series. At Auto Outlet, the Xiaomi SU7 Max and YU7 Max, both electric, are available to order.

What to know before buying a Xiaomi

  • No official service outside China. Xiaomi has no official car importer in Moldova and does not officially sell or repair cars in Europe; entry is only announced for 2027, in Germany. A car brought from China has no factory warranty in the EU, and specific parts are sourced through our network.
  • Software and connected services designed for China. HyperOS, the Xiaomi app, maps and driver assistance depend on Chinese accounts and networks. On an imported car, OTA updates and online services may be limited or missing. Check with us what works on the model you choose.
  • Short track record and public safety issues. Xiaomi has only been making cars since 2024. In 2025 it had a fatal crash with driver assistance engaged and recalled 116,887 SU7s for a software fix. Also in 2025, an OTA update limited the SU7 Ultra's power without customers' consent and was withdrawn after protests: the manufacturer can change how the car behaves through software.
  • Losses and fast model changes. The car and AI division fell back into loss in 2026 (5.7 billion yuan in the first half), and deliveries are well below the annual target. The first-generation SU7 ended production after only two years, which may weigh on resale value. The range in spec sheets is on the CLTC cycle; in reality, especially in winter, expect less.

Xiaomi annual deliveries

From the first full year to the second, deliveries tripled, thanks to the YU7 SUV. In 2026 the pace slowed: in the first eight months, Xiaomi delivered about 45% of its annual target of 550,000 cars.

A short history

On March 30, 2021, Xiaomi announced it was entering the electric car industry, with an initial investment of 10 billion yuan and 10 billion dollars over the next ten years. Lei Jun, Xiaomi's founder, called it the "last major entrepreneurial project" of his life and took charge personally. The car company was officially registered on September 1, 2021, and the factory was built in Beijing.

The first model, the SU7 electric sedan, was unveiled on December 28, 2023, and launched on March 28, 2024. In the first 24 hours, Xiaomi announced 88,898 firm orders. At first, the car was homologated under BAIC's manufacturing license; in July 2024 Xiaomi received its own license. In 2024 it delivered 136,854 cars.

2025 was the year of big successes and the first serious problems. On February 27, the SU7 Ultra arrived, with three motors and 1,548 hp; it gathered more than 10,000 orders in two hours and, on April 1, set the Nürburgring record of 7:04.957 for a production electric sedan (officially confirmed in June). On March 29, however, an SU7 with driver assistance engaged hit a guardrail on a highway in Anhui province; three students died. In May, a software update that limited the SU7 Ultra's power was withdrawn after owners protested. On June 26, the YU7 SUV was launched, with 289,000 orders in the first hour, and in September Xiaomi recalled 116,887 SU7s for a software fix to its highway assistance. Over the full year it delivered 411,082 cars, and the car and AI division posted its first annual profit.

In February 2026, the first-generation SU7 ended production after more than 381,000 units. The new generation was launched on March 19, 2026, with an 800 V system and lidar on every version. The YU7 GT, the SUV's performance version, followed on May 21. At the same time, the car and AI division fell back into loss: 3.1 billion yuan in the first quarter and 2.6 billion in the second, amid lower prices and more expensive components.

On September 7, 2026, Xiaomi launched the SkyNomad series (澎程, Pengcheng, in Chinese), its first extended-range cars (EREV): the N70 and N90 SUVs. The first cars were handed over to customers on September 12, in 75 cities. Also in September, it announced its entry into Europe in 2027, starting with Germany. By early September 2026, Xiaomi had delivered more than 800,000 cars in total.

What sets it apart

In-house HyperEngine electric motors

Xiaomi designs its own electric motors, under the HyperEngine name. The V8s motor, used on the SU7 Ultra, reaches 27,200 revolutions per minute and 578 hp. Faster-spinning motors are smaller and lighter for the same power. On the SU7 Ultra, two V8s motors and one V6s together deliver 1,548 hp.

800 V system and fast charging

The first-generation SU7 Max used an 871 V silicon carbide platform. The new-generation SU7 (2026) has an 800 V architecture on every version, with voltages between 752 and 897 V. The Max version charges from 10% to 80% in about 11 minutes at a compatible fast charger. Batteries come from CATL and FinDreams (BYD) and are integrated directly into the body (CTB).

HyperOS and driver assistance

Xiaomi cars use the same operating system as the brand's phones, HyperOS, which links the car to the phone, tablet and smart home. The driver assistance was called Xiaomi Pilot; in May 2025, after Chinese authorities banned the term "smart driving", it was renamed "assisted driving" (Xiaomi HAD). The new-generation SU7 has lidar and the NVIDIA Thor-U processor as standard. The features are designed for China's roads, maps and networks.

SkyNomad, Xiaomi's first EREV

The SkyNomad series (N70 and N90), launched in September 2026, uses the Kunlun architecture. A 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine, supplied by a subsidiary of the Changan group, works only as a generator: it never drives the wheels. The battery is 52 kWh (LFP) or 76 kWh (NMC), with up to 505 km on electricity alone and up to 1,705 km in total, on the Chinese CLTC cycle. It is not yet available through our catalog.

Model names are short: SU7 is the sedan, YU7 is the SUV. For each, the versions go up from Standard (one motor, rear-wheel drive) to Pro and Max (two motors, all-wheel drive, the most powerful regular version). Ultra (on the SU7) and GT (on the YU7) are the performance versions. The EREV series is called SkyNomad (澎程 in Chinese, pronounced "Peng-chen"), with the N70 (5 seats) and the N90 (larger, with 5 or 7 seats).

The full Xiaomi lineup and positioning

Xiaomi sits between mainstream and premium: in China the SU7 and YU7 compete directly with the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, while the SU7 Ultra and YU7 GT versions target Porsche; the new SkyNomad series enters the family EREV SUV segment, dominated by Li Auto and AITO.

The Price level column shows, on a scale of 1 to 4, how expensive the model is: from budget to premium. The European rival column is a reference for size and class; it doesn't mean the cars are the same. The yellow tag marks models in our catalog.

FAQ

Is Xiaomi a reliable brand?
Xiaomi is a very young car brand, with its first car delivered in 2024, but behind it stands one of the world's largest electronics companies. It sold more than 800,000 cars in two and a half years, and the SU7 Max received 5 stars in China's C-NCAP tests. However, it also has a widely reported fatal crash, a large software recall, and no long-term track record or service network in Europe yet.
Where can a Xiaomi be repaired in Moldova?
Auto Outlet works with partner service centers in Chișinău that specialize in electric and hybrid cars, and provides support with spare parts. The SU7 and YU7 are electric, so maintenance is simple: no engine oil, and the brakes wear more slowly thanks to regenerative braking. Factory software updates may, however, be limited outside China.
What is Xiaomi HyperEngine?
HyperEngine is the name of the electric motors designed by Xiaomi. They spin very fast, up to 27,200 revolutions per minute on the V8s motor, so they can be smaller and lighter for the same power. The Max versions of the SU7 and YU7 have two motors, one on each axle, and all-wheel drive.
How much does a Xiaomi cost in Moldova?
In the Auto Outlet catalog, the Xiaomi SU7 Max and YU7 Max are available to order, from about €33,500. The price is final, with shipping, customs and registration included. We can also bring other versions sold in China.
