Maextro: the luxury brand made by JAC with Huawei's technology and sales network

THE AUTO OUTLET TEAM · UPDATED SEPTEMBER 23, 2026 · ~7 MIN

In short

Maextro (尊界) is the most expensive brand in the Huawei HIMA alliance. The cars are developed and built by JAC, a state-owned carmaker from Hefei, while Huawei provides the platform, driver assistance, the HarmonyOS system and sales. The first model, the S800 luxury sedan, was launched in May 2025 in electric (EV) and extended-range (EREV) versions and, according to JAC, reaches about 20,000 deliveries in September 2026. At Auto Outlet, the electric Maextro S800 is available to order.

What to know before buying a Maextro

  • A very new brand. The first S800s only reached customers in August 2025. There is no data yet on long-term reliability or on what the car looks like after 5–6 years, and at this price that matters a lot.
  • Everything depends on Huawei. The platform, driver assistance, infotainment and sales belong to Huawei, which holds no shares in Maextro. The systems are designed for China: on a car brought to Moldova, advanced assisted driving, maps, apps and the voice assistant may be limited or available only in Chinese. Check with us what works on the version you choose.
  • Sales falling after the peak. From more than 4,200 cars in December 2025, S800 sales dropped to about 1,000 a month in 2026. For JAC, Maextro is its only passenger-car success: the company has acknowledged that the rest of its passenger-car lineup is weak, and selling expenses rose by 69% in the first half of 2026, mainly to promote Maextro.
  • Resale value and costs hard to estimate. Maextro has no official importer in Moldova and no representation in Europe, so there is no factory warranty in the EU, and specific parts (lidar, air suspension, Huawei electronics) are brought from China through our network. The brand is almost unknown in Moldova, and luxury cars lose a lot of value in their first years. The electric version is rarer than the EREV, which can make resale harder.

Maextro S800 cumulative deliveries

Dec. 2025Jan. 2026May 2026Jun. 2026Sep. 2026

The chart shows cumulative deliveries since deliveries began in August 2025: the December 2025 value is calculated from the end-of-January total of 14,078 minus the 2,625 delivered in January, and the September 2026 value is the 20,000 threshold announced by JAC for that month. The pace was very fast at the end of 2025 and slowed in 2026, to about 1,000 cars a month.

A short history

JAC (Anhui Jianghuai) is a state-owned carmaker from Hefei, founded in 1964 and known mainly for trucks, vans and cheap cars. Between 2018 and 2023 it built NIO cars in its plants, and since 2020 Volkswagen has owned half of the group's parent holding company. For JAC, Maextro is its first serious attempt at the luxury segment.

On December 1, 2023, JAC signed a 10-year cooperation agreement with Huawei's consumer division. The split of roles is clear: JAC develops and builds the cars, Huawei brings the technology and has exclusivity over sales, marketing and customer relations. The agreement includes no shares. In July 2024, Richard Yu, head of Huawei's car division, revealed the name 尊界, officially confirmed on August 6, 2024 together with the English name Maextro, and on December 16, 2024 the Hefei factory was opened, designed for 200,000 cars a year.

The S800 sedan was unveiled on November 26, 2024, at a Huawei event, as the fourth brand of the HIMA alliance. The official launch took place on May 30, 2025, series production started on June 18, 2025, and volume deliveries began in August. Within about 175 days of launch (by November 20, 2025), the S800 had gathered more than 18,000 firm orders.

Sales peaked in December 2025, with 4,376 cars delivered in one month. In January 2026, the S800 outsold the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class combined in China. Then the pace slowed: between January and July 2026, about 7,350 cars were sold, roughly 1,000 a month. Even so, according to JAC, the S800 remained for ten months in a row the best-selling luxury car of about one million yuan in China, and cumulative deliveries were set to pass 20,000 in September 2026.

In 2026 the lineup expanded. In March, the S800 got an optional, more capable lidar. On June 25, the top S800 Grand Design version was launched, and on August 5 the V800 and V680 MPVs, both EREV, which gathered more than 10,000 pre-orders in 23 days. Richard Yu, head of Huawei's car division, also announced an SUV, positioned below the S800.

What sets it apart

Huawei makes the "brain", JAC makes the car

Maextro follows the Huawei HIMA alliance model: the carmaker (here JAC) designs and builds the car, while Huawei supplies the main electronics and software and sells the cars through its stores. The S800 is the first car built on the second generation of Huawei's Tuling Longxing platform, which controls the air suspension, steering and brakes as a single system.

Huawei ADS and HarmonyOS

Driver assistance is Huawei ADS 4, with a 192-line lidar and, since 2026, an optional 896-line lidar, presented by Huawei as the most capable fitted in series production. The car was designed for Level 3 autonomous driving, but this feature depends on China's legislation and maps. Infotainment runs HarmonyOS, Huawei's operating system.

Two powertrains: EV and EREV

The electric S800 (EV) has two motors, all-wheel drive, 390 kW and a 97 kWh battery, with a range of 650–702 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle and 10% to 80% charging in about 12 minutes. The EREV version has a battery of about 65 kWh, up to 400 km on electricity alone, and a 1.5-liter turbo engine generates electricity for the battery without driving the wheels. The V800 and V680 MPVs come only as EREV.

The Chinese name 尊界 is pronounced roughly "Dzoon-jyeh". Model names indicate the type and place in the lineup: S stands for sedan, V for MPV, and a higher number means a bigger and more expensive car (the V800 is longer than the V680).

The full Maextro lineup and positioning

Maextro is the flagship of the Huawei HIMA alliance and of the JAC group: a luxury brand that competes in China with the Mercedes S-Class and Maybach, the BMW 7 Series, the NIO ET9 and the Yangwang U7, and, with the V800 and V680 MPVs, with the Lexus LM and Toyota Alphard.

The Price level column shows, on a scale of 1 to 4, how expensive the model is: from budget to premium. The European rival column is a reference for size and class; it doesn't mean the cars are the same. The yellow tag marks models in our catalog.

FAQ

Is Maextro a reliable brand?
Maextro is a new brand, but it has two big partners behind it: JAC, a state-owned carmaker with more than 60 years of history that also built NIO's cars, and Huawei, which supplies the platform, electronics and software. Within a few months, the S800 became the best-selling sedan in its segment in China. What is missing, however, is a long-term track record: the first cars were delivered in August 2025.
Where can a Maextro be repaired in Moldova?
Auto Outlet works with partner service centers in Chișinău that specialize in electric and hybrid cars, and provides support with spare parts. Basic maintenance of an electric S800 is simple, but specific systems, such as the air suspension, the lidar or the Huawei electronics, require parts brought from China and specialized diagnostics.
What does Huawei technology mean for Maextro?
Maextro is part of HIMA, the alliance through which Huawei works with Chinese carmakers. JAC builds the car, and Huawei supplies the Tuling platform, which controls the suspension, steering and brakes, the ADS driver assistance system with lidar and HarmonyOS infotainment. Huawei also handles the brand's sales in China.
How much does a Maextro cost in Moldova?
In the Auto Outlet catalog, the electric Maextro S800 is available to order, from about €92,000. The price is final, with shipping, customs and registration included. In China, the S800 is also sold as an EREV, with a range extender.
