What to know before buying a Jetour
- The G700 is very new. It launched in October 2025, and the CDM-O plug-in hybrid system debuted on it. There is no long-term service experience yet, either in China or in other markets.
- It is a very heavy car, over the B license limit. The G700 weighs over 3 tonnes empty, and in the Chinese spec sheets the gross vehicle weight is 3,705–3,736 kg for the main versions, above the 3,500 kg limit of category B. With only a category B license, you are generally not allowed to drive it; you need category C1. Check the value listed in the specific car's documents before buying. With the battery depleted, gasoline consumption rises sharply, and the tires and brakes work harder than on a regular SUV.
- The software and driver assistance are designed for China. The Chinese version has infotainment and driver assistance (Huawei ADS 4) built for China's maps and roads; not all features work the same way here. Check the language and features of the specific car with us.
- A new brand in Europe. Jetour only entered the EU in November 2025 (Poland, then Romania), with gasoline models only, and in China the G700 is called Zongheng, not Jetour. Resale value is hard to estimate, and specific parts are sourced by their Chinese part numbers.
- The official dealer in Moldova has its own warranty. Jetour has an official dealer in Chișinău (Green Autotrading), which also sells the G700, with an official warranty. A G700 brought directly from China, in the Chinese-market version, may not be covered by that warranty or accepted by the official service center. Ask us what warranty you get for the car you choose.

A short history
Jetour was launched on January 22, 2018, in Beijing, by Chery's commercial vehicle division. From the start it positioned itself as "旅行+" ("Travel+"): family SUVs for long trips, with 5, 6 or 7 seats. The first model was the X70, on the iPeL platform, followed in April 2018 by the X90. In its first year the brand sold 40,007 cars, and in 2019 it passed 128,000.
In July 2021, Chery turned Jetour into a separate company, "of equal rank" with the group's other brands, with a target of one million cars a year by 2026. Sales rose slowly, to 154,035 in 2021 and 180,067 in 2022. In 2022 came the Dashing compact SUV and the second-generation X70, the X70 Plus.
The turning point was 2023. The off-road-styled Traveler (T2) SUV, designed under the direction of a former Porsche designer, went on sale in September and became the brand's signature model. In November 2023, Jetour launched the Shanhai line for its plug-in hybrid models, starting with the Shanhai L9. Also in 2023 it entered the Philippines and Russia, and exports reached about 110,000 cars. Total sales nearly doubled, to 315,167.
In January 2024, Jetour built its one-millionth car, 65 months after launch. In 2024 Chery bought the Soueast plant in Fuzhou, with a capacity of 200,000 cars a year, which is used for Jetour models. The year ended with 568,387 cars sold. The Shanhai T1 plug-in hybrid appeared in October 2024, and the gasoline version, the Freedom (T1 for export), in February 2025.
On January 22, 2025, Jetour launched Zongheng (纵横), its line of large body-on-frame off-road SUVs. The first model, the G700, unveiled together with the line, entered the United Arab Emirates market on September 10, 2025, and was officially launched in China on October 19, 2025. In November 2025, Jetour started sales in Poland, its first EU market. In 2025 it sold 622,590 cars (+9.5%), and the total since launch passed 2.15 million. The Zongheng F700 pickup followed in August 2026, the brand entered Romania in September 2026, and in 2026 the Traveler (T2) became the first Chinese model named Car of the Year in South Africa.
What sets it apart
G700: plug-in hybrid with a body-on-frame chassis
The G700 is built on the GAIA platform, with a body-on-frame chassis like classic off-roaders, not a unibody like most SUVs. It is about 5.2 m long and 2.05 m wide, weighs between about 3.06 and 3.18 tonnes empty, and its gross vehicle weight exceeds 3.7 tonnes. The CDM-O system combines a 155 kW 2.0 turbo gasoline engine, a dedicated two-speed hybrid transmission and electric motors on both axles (300 kW at the rear), with a 34.13 kWh CATL Shenxing LFP battery. Total output is 665 kW. Electric-only range is 150 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle (116 km on WLTC), and total range is about 1,400 km (CLTC); in real conditions, expect less.
Plug-in hybrid, not a range extender
On the G700, the gasoline engine is mechanically connected to the wheels through the two-speed transmission, so the car is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Chery also has a range-extender system for large off-roaders, CEM-O, with four electric motors, announced for the future G900. The Shanhai models use the Kunpeng C-DM system, also a plug-in hybrid, with a 1.5-liter turbo engine and a three-speed hybrid transmission.
The Kunlun platform: off-road-styled SUVs
The Traveler (T2), Freedom (T1) and Dashing sit on the Kunlun platform, with a unibody. The platform accepts gasoline, plug-in hybrid, electric and range-extender powertrains. The Traveler has a 28° approach angle, a 30° departure angle, 220 mm of ground clearance and an electronic locking differential; it is designed for country roads and light off-roading, not extreme terrain.
Jetour names come in two layers. In China, the models have Chinese names: 旅行者 (Lǚxíngzhě, "The Traveler") for the Traveler, 自由者 (Zìyóuzhě, "The Free Man") for the Freedom, 大圣 (Dàshèng, after the Monkey King) for the Dashing. For export they become the T2, T1 and Dashing. The Shanhai line (山海, "mountains and seas") groups the plug-in hybrid models (L6, L7, L9, T1), and Zongheng (纵横, roughly "far and wide") the large off-roaders: G stands for SUV, F for pickup, and the number (600, 700, 900) indicates size. Outside China, the G700 is sold as the Jetour G700, and in the Philippines as the GAIA G700.
The full Jetour lineup and positioning
Jetour is a budget, mainstream brand, offering big SUVs for little money, aimed at families in China's smaller cities and at export. With the Zongheng line it moves up into the premium off-road segment, where it competes with the Tank 700 (GWM) and, in image, with Jeep, the Land Rover Defender and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
The Price level column shows, on a scale of 1 to 4, how expensive the model is: from budget to premium. The European rival column is a reference for size and class; it doesn't mean the cars are the same. The yellow tag marks models in our catalog.
